How It’s Made: The Vincent Bach Mouthpiece

A hundred years ago, a broken mouthpiece brought about the inception of the Vincent Bach brand. The trumpeter and founder of the company, Vincent Bach himself, began experimenting with designs and manufacturing processes to replace his broken mouthpiece. Bach therefore established his career as a manufacturer, and quickly emerged as an important figure for trumpeters in New York. In the century which has followed, Vincent Bach instruments and accessories have spread across the world. The Vincent Bach mouthpieces, and trumpets soon after, set the standard for excellence in instrument manufacturing.

Vincent Bach mouthpieces combine a combination of classic and innovative styles. A computer-numeric-controlled machine then shapes the designs by cutting a solid brass bar into the desired style. Each step is precise within one ten-thousandth of an inch.

The fascinating video below shows the manufacturing process in action. It highlights the astonishing accuracy of the machinery, as well as the quality of the mouthpieces themselves.
