Here at The British Band Instrument Company, we have the pleasure of supplying instruments to musicians all across the world. Not only is it a pleasure to send musical instruments to a variety of different territories, but it also gives us the opportunity to learn about different customs of military and marching bands. Many of the team have even been fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to these locations and learn about these different traditions first-hand.
Our General Manager Luke says; “We count ourselves fortunate to have the opportunity to travel and meet our customers in their typical working environment. These opportunities are hugely valuable to us as they allow us a unique insight into the way instrument and accessory products are sourced, played and maintained in line with our customers unique requirements. We also value the opportunity to establish and build close relationships with our customers in a way that online communication just doesn’t quite achieve in the same way.”
We would like to share these experiences with you, so have decided to launch our New Series: ‘Behind the Lyre’.
Introducing our New Series: ‘Behind the Lyre’
In these blogs, we will interview different people with an involvement in military and marching bands from across the globe. These will often include the musicians from a selection of different bands. We are also hoping to speak with other individuals who have involvement with said bands, such as:
- different ranks and role within military structures
- agents responsible for sourcing musical instruments
- instrument/accessory manufacturers
- and many more!
We have already conducted our first interview as part of this new series. We had the pleasure of speaking with Clive Reeves from Reeves Brass about his experience serving in Her Majesty’s Welsh Guards Band for 25 years. The main focus of this blog is the different roles within the band, with some fantastic stories from Clive threaded throughout. Keep an eye on the BBICO News Page for our first ‘Behind the Lyre’ blog post next week.

Would you be interested in sharing some of your experience working within or with a military or marching band? If so, we would love the opportunity to speak with you.
We’re looking for people from all countries, of all ages and abilities, who play all sorts of instruments! We’re also looking for those who are a little further behind the lyre. This includes educators, directors, agents responsible for sourcing musical instruments, the instrument manufacturers themselves, and many more. We would love to share your important role in military and marching music with the rest of our community.
