World’s first 3D printed miniature orchestra

The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona has has more than 6,500 instruments on display, its latest addition is a 3D-printed orchestra – in miniature that was made using 3D scanning and 3D printing technology, it also includes audio clips

To create the 1/12-scale ensemble, MIM sent musicians, many of whom are members of the prestigious London City Orchestra,to a 3D-printing studio where they were photographed with their instruments from all angles.

These pictures were turned into a digital template from which the full-colour plaster-of-Paris figurines were printed.

The miniature orchestra is on display at the museum to give a potted guide to the orchestra.
